There has been a folk club in Wrexham since the mid ‘60s and, with hardly a break, this has continued right up to the present day, albeit at different venues throughout the town and just outside. Perhaps amazingly, the club is still run by one of the founder members, Goff Jones.

For over 15 years, the club’s home has been The Nag’s Head, Mount Street, Wrexham, a friendly pub on Mount Street, next to a tall brick chimney, a remnant of Wrexham’s brewing industry and one of the historic landmarks of the town.

We meet in the quiet upstairs function room with excellent acoustics, which allows for unplugged music and a convivial atmosphere. We meet on the first and third Thursdays of each month from October through to and including May, with the exception of a break on the first Thursday in January.

Guest nights are traditionally the first Thursday of the month and feature high quality acts from all around the country and beyond. It is a real privilege to be able to enjoy this level of entertainment in such an intimate atmosphere, and the performers invariably appreciate the atmosphere as much as the audience – an ideal recipe for a good night out.

Singers’ nights are on the third Thursday of the month and also the first Thursday if there isn’t a guest booking. Anyone can come along and perform, whether singing, playing an instrument or even reciting poetry or prose.
