Sessions

Shropshire

Original Shrewsbury Folk Club Session

Where: The Prince of Wales, Bynner Street, Belle Vue
Shrewsbury, SY3 7NZ

When: 8:30-10:30pm Every Wednesday

Type: An informal song (and tunes if you like to play) session which has been running continuously for at least five decades. It’s a laid back pub session which is welcoming and respectful of performers of all standards.

 

The White Horse Sessions

Where: The White Horse, Shrewsbury, SY2 6JJ

When: 7:30-10:30pm Second-to-last Wednesday, except December when it is the third-to-last Wednesday.

Type: Friendly relaxed session with both tunes and songs from all areas welcome.

Shrewsbury Balfolk Tunes Session

Where: The Loggerheads, Church Street, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, SY1 1UG

When: 7:30-10pm Last Wednesday.

Type: A session dedicated to the folk dance tunes of continental Europe. Whether you’re already a Balfolk enthusiast or fancy something a bit different, we’ll be playing mazurkas, bourrees, schottisches and more… It promises to be a lively and friendly session, so please join us on any acoustic instrument.

The Loggerheads (Shrewsbury)

Where: The Loggerheads, Church Street, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, SY1 1UG

When: (Two different sessions as follows)

From 8pm Every Tuesday (run by Phil Jones) and from 8pm Every Thursday (run by Geoff and Sue Clarkson).

Type: Both Tuesday and Thursday sessions are sing-arounds (or instrumental), with Thursday more oriented to Folk and joining in.

 

Wheatsheaf (Frankwell) Folk Session

Where: The Wheatsheaf (Frankwell), Shrewsbury, SY3 8JY

When: 8-10:30pm Second Tuesday

Type: Mainly tune session and mostly Irish.

 

Coolock (Frankwell)

Where: Coolock, 128 Frankwell, SY3 8JX, Shrewsbury

When: 8pm – late, Fourth Tuesday

Type: Mainly Irish, Scottish, Celtic folk tunes.

 

The Prince of Wales (Shrewsbury)

Where: The Prince of Wales, 30 Bynner Street, Shrewsbury, SY3 7NZ

When: 8:30pm First Monday

Type: Music Session

 

The Dolphin (Shrewsbury)

Where: The Dolphin, 48 St Michael’s Street SY1 2EZ Shrewsbury

When: 8:30-10:30pm First Tuesday

Type: Irish, scottish and celtic tunes.

 

The Selattyn Session

Where: The Cross Keys (The Docks), Glyn Road, Selattyn, SY10 7DH

When: From 8pm Every Thursday

Type: Traditional music session at The Cross Keys (The Docks), Selattyn (great, friendly, C17th real ale pub) every Thursday evening from c20:00 hours. Bring your instrument, bring your friends, come to play or to listen. We mostly but by no means exclusively play Irish traditional music and mostly tunes rather than songs, but all styles and instruments are welcome.

 
The session room is quite small and sometimes it gets quite busy/crowded, so best to turn up in good time if you want to play/want a seat!
 

Jenny’s Acoustic Music Sessions (Trefonen)

Where: The Barley Mow, Trefonen, SY10 9DX

When: 7-10pm Second Tuesday

Type: Acoustic night. All genres, any instruments, songs, or instrumental music and Poetry very welcome.

 

The Golden Ball Sessions (Ironbridge)

Where: The Golden Ball Inn, 1 Newbridge Rd, Ironbridge, TF8 7BA

When: 4-7pm Second Monday

Type: Song and tune session.

 

Coalbrookdale Inn Sessions (Coalbrookdale)

Where: Coalbrookdale Inn, 12 Wellington Road, Coalbrookdale, TF8 7DX

When: 8pm Last Thursday

Type: Song and tune session.

 

The Boat Inn (Jackfield)

Where: The Boat Inn, Ferry Rd, Jackfield, Telford, TF8 7LS

When: 8pm-late, Every Thursday and Second, Fourth and Occasionally Fifth Tuesday

Type:

(Thursday) Mainly traditional irish session that has been going for 35 years or more.

(Tuesday) Come and join us for an evening of music, songs, poems and anything else that turns up at The Boat Inn, Jackfield. The fun starts around 8pm, join in or just listen, refreshments are provided for all performers. Come early to get a seat!

Bridgnorth Folk Club

Where: The Garden Bar, 6 Bridge Street, Bridgnorth, WV15 6AF

When: From 7:30pm, First, Third and (when there is one) Fifth Tuesday

Type: Folk session, all ages and abilities welcome.

 

Kershaw’s Acoustic Singaround

Where: Kershaw’s Cafe, Faraday Business Park, Faraday Drive, Bridgnorth, WV15 5BA

When: From 2-5pm, Last Saturday.

Type: Singaround, mixed folk and contemporary.

 

Clun Acoustic Folk Session at The Sun

Where: The Sun Inn, Clun, SY7 8JB

When: 8-11pm Fourth Wednesday, except December when it is the third Wednesday

Type: Acoustic Folk Session. Come along for a sing, a play or just listen. Everyone welcome!

Songwriters Circle in Ludlow

Where: Old Street Tavern, 4 Old Street, Ludlow, SY8 1NP

When: 7:30-11pm Second Monday

Type: In the upstairs room every second Monday of the month. In a convivial atmosphere, with space and time, you can present your songs to an appreciative bunch of your peers. Everyone listens and takes in what you are saying. No noise, just quiet contemplation, and sometimes a good old laugh.

The aim of this group is to allow a platform for songwriters of all ages, styles, and abilities to connect with like-minded people, to try out new material, and to help and encourage one another. To take part in monthly challenges and gain confidence and experience in writing and performing.

Shropshire Roads

Where: Changes venue every week, so check the Facebook group (link below) to find out the next venues.

When: From 8pm Every Wednesday

Type: We are a group of local folk musicians that play in Newport Shropshire and surrounding villages. Contemporary and traditional folk – all acoustic. Players and audience – all welcome. We have broad taste welcoming blues and more contemporary performances, singers, song writers, we would love to hear you. We have been going for nearly 20 years. Keep our folk tradition going and come and join us.
